The California Geological Survey has issued a new geologic and fault activity maps that cover the entire state.  These maps provide much more information than previous versions (Jennings 1977 and 1994).  The fault activity map includes some 50 new active traces, many of them small. However, there are some larger faults in northern California that have been added.  The map only depicts faults that rupture the ground surface.  Buried or concealed faults, such as the Puente Hills thrust system fault that caused the Whittier Narrows Earthquake in 1987, are not shown.  The map comes in hard copy and as a web-based version that can be viewed in detail using your web browser.  From more go to:
